The temperatures are recorded at 11 am by a digital thermometer in the shade, 30 cm below the surface in water 2 meters deep. Low, high and mean refer to the historical data collected on the same date from 2003 through 2010.

The location is south facing, in a large shallow bay, near the Burleigh Channel. The water here tends to be 1 to 3 degrees warmer than in the middle of Upper Stoney.
